Egypt - Days 5 to 7
Well we got the pictures from the camera onto CD, thanks to the nice rep, so we’ve been taking plenty of photos. You’ll just have to wait a while to see them!
Day 5
Friday was a very hot day that was made hotter by an excursion to the west bank of the Nile, across from Luxor. Over there you will find the Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens where the Kings and Queens of Egypt have been buried many years ago and infact it was hotter inside than out! The tombs are very brightly decorated and were filled with all kinds of treasures such as statues, furniture, boats and chests. We saw 3 Kings tombs and the tomb of Tutankhumun (this is seperate), and 3 Queens tombs also. No photos. This is a shame because they would be fantastic, but photography is not allowed.
The rate was not bad there and back, the taxi was 80LE, and the driver was very polite even though his car was knackered (everyone drives 20 year old Peugeots) and he crashed as well.
Later we went down the pool and onto Luxor museum (more later) and for some food.
Day 6
We checked out Karnak today, it’s a massive site that each of the Pharos have dedicated to themselves and the gods, each one adding to what was there before until a fanastic palace is what remains. We do have photos of this, and some good ones too.
We also saw this palace at night, an event called ‘Karnak light and sound’, we went though the rep earlier in the week and booked it for about £30 each. It’s exactly the same as the daytime exhibition, except each part is lit up and a voice-over tells the story about it. We got some really good shots of this, once I worked out the night time function on the camera.
Here’s some more info on Karnak.
