It’s New Years Eve and this is our view of Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House. Once again the sun is beating down and there are loads of burnt people. I don’t think they mind too much though as the beer and wine is flowing.

After 9.00 and every hour till 11.00 there will be a canon blast and fireworks, it’s only 6.40 just now.

At 11.59:50 the countdown will start for the big display and a giant heart will light over the harbor.

The Three Sisters and Blue Mountains

Today we took the train to Katoomba to see the Blue Mountains, and the Three Sisters (pictured). The views were outstanding all across the valley and the sun was blazing hot, so we took the scenic railway to a rainforest walk and strolled back towards the Three Sisters. To get back up we had to climb the Giants Staircase comprising 1000 steps and believe me that was hard work in 40C heat!

To finish the day off we went out for a Chinese meal and saw Narnia at the cinema.

Night!

Arrived in Sydney

This morning we arrived in Sydney, in New South Wales. It’s great weather here: a cool 30C, shades and sun tan lotion required! We’ve been to the PowerHouse museum and the Darling Harbour visitor centre, recommended.

You have received a new message

Here’s a quick snap of the London Bridge, it’s an ancient rock formation that you can visit on the Ocean Road. We also called in on the 12 Apostiles.

Australia Mobile Rates and Services

Since we’re out here for a while it made sense for me to get a local mobile phone, rather than using the expensive roaming service of my home network.
I’ve bought a ‘prepay’ sim from Vodafone and stuck in in my Nokia 7600. Unfortunatly it didn’t work right away as my phone is locked to my home network. With the help of www.officialringtonechart.com/unlocking/ I managed to unlock it for use with Vodafone. Five minutes later and I’m texting and calling away :-)
Here are some websites that helped me decide what network to use:
