I’m a ToughGuy! ™
On 29th January (week and a half ago) I took part in probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done…
Yes, it was ToughGuy.
For those who don’t know ToughGuy is an event held every year in a complex of fields some where near Wolverhampton. The event consists of a 5 miles (ish) cross-country run followed by an assault course.
Doesn’t sound so bad does it?
Well now consider that the run includes going up and down a steep hill (very rough terrain) probably 10 times just for the sake of it, then there’s running back and forth through a wood in and out of a ditch just for the sake of it, oh and that’s just for starters…
The assault course was rock hard. Given that it was January I expected it to be cold, even the harsh weather forcast wasn’t so suprising. I was suprised though when we arrived at the venue and the was ice on the ponds and water courses, I woudn’t have minded if I didn’t have to swim through most if it!
The course itself consists of some 20 obsticles including electric curtains (my best description!), cargo net log a-frames bigger than my house, freezing swims and underwater plunges, vietcong tunnels, barbed wire crawls, tyre tunnels, long sections of thick knee-high mug (Deadleg Swamp) and even burning haybails to jump over. Enough said I think…
I’m well chuffed I got round, I didn’t do a great deal of training beforehand but what I did do paid off big time! Before ToughGuy the furthest I’d ever run was three miles, and that was on road. It was my determination that got me round, but I was so cold by the end that if I’d been another 10 minutes I’d have given in.

Anyway who’s for NettleWarrior? 30th July 2006
Ah yes, the summer event!
(Do the run and twice round the assault course, no ice this time though…)
