Blokarting - a cool way to spend two hours on a beach

While we were in Newquay on our recent holiday we tried out something new: Blo karting. If you’ve ever seen Land Yachting then this is very similar, the diference is that these are smaller and can dismantle to fit into a holdall!
Although they are small they are by no means slow! There was a good wind but not very stong, great for learning.

The place we went for the Blokarting on Gwithian Beach near Hayle in Cornwall (map), we arranged it through a company called SpeedsailUK who were excellent. We paid £44 for a two hour session comprising of tuition, equipment, coveralls and insurance.

We had an absolutely excellent time and I would recomment it to anyone.

I replaced the reservoir pressure cap the other day with one from my local Rover/MG dealer, it only cost me £5 so that was a nice surprise!

The water level had gone down slightly, nothing to be worried about though as I expect these would be a small amount of residual air in the system and that will take a while to come out. It should all be out now though.

Hmm I saw this tutorial on instructables.com and thought I might make on to fit onto the side of my car, it would look excellent writing GTM Libra as I drive by… :-)

Then I came across these things called TireTagz, they also look like good fun!

I finished replacing the pipes late on Friday night and filled up the system with water, after running the engine for a minute or two it was obvious that there was an airlock some where as the hot water just wasn’t making it back round the from engine.

Armed with advice from the TeamGTM message boards I tried again in the moring, this time with a hosepipe!
I disconnected the return from the radiator in the rear of the car and jammed the hosepipe into the water reservior (sealed up with a rag), Alison then held that in place while I bled the system.

Firing the engine up again the heat was getting round this time but the temperature gauge was still reading hot. I diagnosed this as a weak water pump because as I revved the engine the hot water made it right round and back.

After going to a 30 minute spin last night (just to check) and topping up the reservoir with coolant I decied it might just be road worthy once again. I made into work ok, just have to make it home again!

Still need to replace the pressure release cap on the water reservoir and I might fit a bigger reservoir and water pump to boot.

So far this has cost me about £70!
