Film Review: Children of Men

Went to the cinema tonight as I’m working away and had nothing better to do.
Out of the selection available the most promising film was Children of Men:

In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child’s birth may help scientists save the future of humankind.

Staring:

Well not a bad film, at all, a simple story line that starts with the death of the youngest man on earth aged 18. This sets the scene for the rest of the film featuring plenty of terrorism, army occupied cities and police escorted public transport, all brought about by the desperation of people as humanity slowly dies.

Children of Men carries a message, a warning if you will, of what the future might hold and perhaps it tells a few home truths too, about Britains foreign policy or class system.

Theo (Clive Owen) stars as the unlikely (alcoholic, chain-smoking) hero set to save the first baby for 18 years and her mother, despite being the target of terrorist groups and being on the run.

I don’t believe in spoilers so I won’t give away the ending but it was a real let-down, espcially after the emotional highs and lows of the film.

Squeaky coil-over dampers cured

As much as I like my car it can be embarassing because my coil-overs are quite squeaky! This seems to be a common problem but without many solutions.

GT85After trying a few different remedies I tried GT85, it’s a silicone based luricant and so it doesn’t attack the rubber seals like oil will. It also leaves a thin film residue that prevents rust.

I actually find that the GT85 is perhaps a bit too thin as the squeak is slowly coming back, what I need is a heavier silicone lubricant: more like grease than a thin oil. Unfortunately my local shops only sell that type of product in an aerosol, which is pretty useless.

New rear tyres: Toyo Proxes T1-R

About time I got some new rubber for the rear, they are near the end of their life especially the offside as the camber needs setting correctly.

Anyway, after checking out various garages and tyres, I’m booked in for a pair of Toyo Proxes T1-R. I also considered the Eagle F1 and Avon Z3 but the T1-R is a good all-rounder and for a good price.

yep the official Formula 1 website is now selling a carbon fibre mouse mat. Not much grip on that for the mouse ball though (I don’t have a laser mouse yet) but not to worry: also do a carbon and leather version.
