After hunting round for a decent FTP client I finally found this plugin for my favourite browser.

FireFTP is a free, secure, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.

Along with transferring your files quickly and efficiently, FireFTP also includes more advanced features such as: directory comparison, syncing directories while navigating, SSL encryption, file hashing, and much more!

Highly recommended!

For Christams I was given some money as contributions towards a new splitter for the Libra (I crunched the old one on a kerb), it’s been long enough now so I’ll be placing the order soon. I just have to fish out the £5 notes stashed at the back of my sock drawer!

I’ve been looking around for some new lights for the Libra: the standard one’s aren’t great without using high power blubs or HID/Xenon units.
Ford Pumas and Alfa Romeo 159s both have light pops that could be adapted to fit the Libra front, the Puma ones are allegedly crap though so I’m looking for the 159 ones.
They don’t seem to be easily available thought. (At least not for a good price).

The actual shape of the car the come from won’t be adopted, as the lights are modular I can make the fit my own design. (I hope!)

On Windows I used uTorrent (really light, never crashed, nice and quick), but it’s not yet available for Linux so I’m on the hunt for a new one.

PC seems happy

The Pc did seem to be overheating a bit during DVD encoding, but I’ve not done any of that and it’s been fine since. Maybe the heatsink needs re-seating?

I’m now running on StartCom Linux, this a vaiation of RedHats’ Fedora Core 6 that I was using. I didn’t have any problems with FC6 but I didn’y have the disk handy when I needed it so I thought I’d try SC instead. There’s not much to tell between them.

It’s a bit slow to boot but that’s due to my unusual SATA/IDE setup, I’ll resolve that eventually but I’m in no rush at the moment.

Open Source Course Update

I’m now five weeks into my course now and thankfully most of the reading seems to be over. Initially all the activities were reading but now we’re actually getting down to a bit of coding.
This week the course has introduced the basics of PHP variables, operators, constructs and a few functions.

I’m wating to hear back about my first assessment: I subbmitted it on Friday.
