Google Releases Google Desktop for Linux

Yesterday Google released it’s popular Windows tool Google Desktop for Linux, see their blog about it here.

I was looking for exactly this type of program, what a coincidence that Google should create one just in time!

There is already one similar product (that I know of) called Beagle, I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll try them both out now.

The Alpha Romeo 159 headlights are proving to be rare…
However for less than £10 I got myself a used Ford Puma headlight, I’ll try it out and see what it’s like for my new bonnet project. They take a xenon/hid bulb.

I’ll keep looking out for the alpha lights but hopefully these will do the job.

New Broadband Modem Thing - Linksys WAG54GS (Much more reliable)

The internet connection has been dropping a lot lately, and I got really fed up with it: it kept loosing the adsl connection, usually when I was in the middle of doing work for my ou course.
So tonight I rushed out and bought a new one. Just like the last one it is an ADSL modem and router combined. This one has some extra features such as wireless (802.11b and 802.11g if you know what that means) and a built-in hub (so now I’ve got an extra socket to plug something else into ;-) ), it also has ADSL2+ (whatever that is: I don’t need it) and VPN support.

Setting up the WAG54GS was really easy, anyone could do it if they had a couple of bits of info from their broadband provider. It’s working quite happily now and I’ve got a 14-day money back guarantee from Staples so if it’s not what I want I’ll take it back.

Course results: 1st assignment 82%

Well the results are back and I scored 82%, it seems quite high but the results page tells me that about 40% of students scored over 85%, so I could have done better.

I got 4 questions wrong, one was a stupid mistake: I ticked the wrong box in the multiple choice answer form, even though I checked it twice - next time I’ll check it 3 times! The other three were tricky and were more down to interpretation than simply knowing the answer

The next assignment is out now and looks even trickier so I have to really pay attention to the wording of the questions.
