While listening to todays Newcastle v Chelsea match I looked for information on betfair bots an found this article on www.laytheodds.com.

UK Horse Racing, Sports Betting & Exchange Trading Portal - Exchange Trading - Betting Bots - FEATURED ARTICLE - Learn How to Extract Live Betfair Market Data

While it doesn’t give much away, it does seem to work! Now the trick is to use the link (e.g. Barclays Premiership - Winner 2004/05) to inport the data into a program or spreadsheet.

MLB Baseball: New York Yankees at Boston

Just noticed that this game only started 20 minutes ago, so I’ve layed both sides.

Current odds are
NYY: 2.2 (Back), 2.6 (Lay)
BOS: 1.65 (back), 1.66 (Lay)

So I placed these bets: Lay NYY 2.2 ?2 and Lay BOS 1.3 ?3.40.
Neither of these bets have been matched so we’ll have to see what happens, but the idea is that the odds will fluctuate enough for both the bets to be matched and I’ll be ?1 up regardless of the winner.
Again, I’m talking big money ;-)

While I’ve been typing my NYY bet has been matched and BOS are at 1.8 to lay. So lets hope that BOS come through and the odds swing in their favor, and mine.
If the BOS bet isn’t matched, then NYY have won and I’ll be ?2.40 down. Boo

Come on Boston!

Betting Update

I’ve been unsuccessful to date in finding a bookie for my arbitrary betting experiment. There are some out there but the problem seems to be the time difference: I can never find a race that’s on in the next hour.
I did however have a bit of luck in golf. It’s not a sport I know much about but I managed to lay and back Els when he played Drummond yesterday, and made a whole 41p! (39p less commission).
I know that sounds pitiful, well it is! I’m trying not to load any more money into any of my accounts and therefore my previous ?3.89 meant only one bet could be placed (minimum ?2 bet). With my 39 brand new pennies my balance can now manage two bets and therefore a bit more profit making scope for me.

Australian Bookmakers

After my holidays I’m pretty skint, but I’ve got a good feeling that I might be able to win a bit of money by placing arbitrary bets. Because I’m so skint, I’m absolutely only going to place bets if there is no way I can loose, i.e. there is no risk involved.
How can I do this? Well with the help of differences between odds at bookmakers sites, particularly I’m going to pursue this with Betfair in the UK and one or more Australian bookmakers: Sportsbet Australia, IASBet, CanBet, Sportingbet Australia.
I don’t know which yet, it will just depend on their T&Cs, charges and what shows up when.

Spread Betting

When I first got interested in the gambling scene, it was because of a magazine article on arbitrage betting. The article told of how easy it was to make small gains (e.g. 1%) without any risk, so long as you knew the differences between bookies rules that is and had a bit of wedge.
I’ve not been doing too well at it, mainly because there aren’t too many arbs about and because I’ve not got that much wedge to throw about.
I’ve now clicked on to the fact that bookies in different countries can sometime have quite different odds. Now this can increase the chance of an arb, and the profit from it, but it still requires quite a bit of coordination between on my part, and this has been another of my failings. What I might do instead is to back a runner at the foreign bookie and lay the same runner at betfair. This will reduce my chance of error (less bookies) and also takes down the risk (as odds can change before you have all the bets on). It’s know as spreading betting and as long as the odds at betfair are lower then I’m on a winner (otherwise it’s know as cutting your losses or laying your odds).
I’m going to play with this next, as soon as I’ve found a good bookie (low fees, good exchange rates, plenty of international/UK events). The US looks unlikely as they seem to be closely linked with UK odds and vice-versa, or they simply don’t offer the same sports. Australia is looking like a possibility, but for a lack of internet bookies.

Stay tuned for details.
