Fix your DNS errors on PS3
I often used to problems signing on to PlayStation Network (PSN), even though my network was fine I would get DNS errors. The problem was made worse if I switched my PS3 on before the network router/modem.
There is a quick change that I made that fixed the problem for me and so I’ll share it with you!
On the PS3 XMB menu system go to the Settings and then Network Settings item. Go to “Internet Connection Settings List” and write down the two series of numbers that are against the Primary and Secondary DNS servers. The number series will be four sets of numbers separated by dots (”.”), e.g. 123.456.789.12.
Now go to “Internet Settings”. Ask for “Custom” setting method (rather than easy), now enter all the settings for your network (e.g. wireless network and password) as previously (when installing the system). When you get to the “DNS Setting” screen choose “Manual” rather than Automatic. Enter the two numbers that you wrote down for the Primary and Secondary DNS servers. Follow the rest of the setup steps and save the settings.
Try and sign-in, it should now work.
(A note about others suggested solutions to this problem: Some say you should use 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 for the Primary and Secondary DNS servers, this will most likely work but that server is probably a very long way away and you will have a laggy (slow) connection. Also, if everyone uses the same server then it will get bogged down and become slow once again. Using my method you will be using a DNS server that has been provided by your broadband provider, so it will be close by and dedicated to it’s customers (you!) so why not use it?).
