At home we our broadband internet provider is Pipex.net. They were the cheap at the time and seemed to be pretty good, but now they are not all that cheap (compared to new offerings) and their reliability seems to be going downhill.
You connect via a free USB ADSL modem, but this is also not that reliable. Whenever the connection is dropped I can never be sure whether the fault lies with me, the modem or with Pipex. Although the ADSL modem is free, you have to pay a 50 fee to disconnect from the service and this covers the cost of the modem for them. I’ll be careful of these sneaky charges when I sign up next time.
So I’m now in the market for a cheap and reliable broadband internet connection. Is there such a thing? Check ADSL Guide to find out.
I doubt I’ll go for a deal with a USB modem solution again, even if it is free. Instead I’ll get a ADSL broadband router. This should free up a USB port on the PC and I can use internet connection sharing software on my other PC via a hub.
