The 1800 engine and gearbox utilises different engine mountings to that of the 1400 and 1600 engines. The front mounting on the 1800 engine has to be replaced with the mounting from a 1400 engine. The gearbox mounting has to be removed and a special mounting bracket fitted to enable it to bolt up to the standard 1400/1600 gearbox mountings.

Assembly

The 1800 front engine mounting is attached to the front of the engine by three bolts. Remove the bolts and the mounting and replace with a 1400cc Rover Metro engine mounting. Remove completely the 1800 gear box mounting and replace with the special GTM 1800 gear box mounting which in turn mounts up to the standard Rover Metro gearbox mounting.
