Method
Parts
- The new catch used is typically available from cycle shops and is the type used to secure cycle seat posts and wheels. A wide variety is available but most are suited to a M4 bolt.
- A washer can be used between the catch and the roof to prvent damage.
Tools
If you have a M4 type catch you will need to tap it to an M6, as that is the size of the roof bolt. If you're lucky enough to have a M6 type catch
- M6 tap
- M5 drill bit
- Sandpaper/Angle grinder
Do It!
- Drill out the existing M4 thread to M5, then use the tap to make a new thread.
- The new bolt most likely won't fit between the lobes of the catch, so sand or grind it out until the bolt now slide between the lobes
- Depending on the 'closed' position of the catch you may with to reprofile the lobes slightly so that it 'locks'
